Product Description
No.5 Continuous Zip in Black
Classic, versatile, and always reliable, this No.5 continuous zipper tape in Black is a staple for makers who value clean, professional finishes. Sold by the ½ metre, it’s supplied in one continuous length when you order more than one unit, allowing you to cut exactly what you need for your project. Each ½ metre includes one matching rectangular #5 pull; extra pulls are available separately so you can configure either single- or double-pull zips with ease.
Constructed with nylon coil, this zip provides a smooth glide and durable flexibility. It curves neatly around gussets and corners, sews flat under top-stitching, and won’t damage machine needles the way metal teeth can. The No.5 coil (5 mm width) is widely trusted for bag making, offering strength without unnecessary weight. It’s ideal for handbags, backpacks, pouches, toiletry cases, project organisers, and home décor makes such as cushions or storage bins.
Continuous zip tape puts control in your hands: cut to the precise length, insert sliders from either direction, and tailor closures to fit your design. In timeless Black, with tape, coil, and pull all perfectly matched, this zip coordinates effortlessly with almost any fabric. It provides a polished, understated finish that works equally well with neutrals, brights, or patterned textiles.

Maker’s notes
-
Use a zipper foot and a medium stitch length for neat, even seams.
-
Double-sided basting tape is a helpful aid to secure the zip before stitching.
-
To finish ends, fold the tape back and stitch, or enclose with a fabric tab.
-
Nylon coil can be safely stitched across; avoid this technique with metal zips.
Reliable, adaptable, and always in style, this Black No.5 continuous zip is a practical essential—ready to provide durable closures and a professional look across all kinds of handmade projects.

✨ Attaching a Zipper Pull
- Separate the ends of the zip tape by a few centimetres to give yourself space.
- Place the slider so the flat side faces upward and the curved side points down.
- Insert the first side of the tape into the slider until it catches.
- Line up the second side carefully and feed it into the opposite channel.
- Push both sides in gently until the teeth begin to mesh.
- Slide the pull along the tape to check it’s secure and moving smoothly.
✂️ Snip Snip Tip: For easier threading, cut about 5 mm of the zipper teeth off one side of the tape. Feed the longer side with the teeth into the slider first, then the trimmed side — the stagger helps the pull catch and align cleanly.
Alternative: Trimming both ends of the tape on a slight angle can also help. Seal the cut edges with a quick pass of heat or fray stop to prevent unravelling.
