Product Description
OdiCoat Fabric Water Resistant and Waterproofing Gel by Odif
OdiCoat Fabric Coating Gel offers a practical and reliable way to enhance the durability and functionality of your textiles. Made in France and formulated without solvents, acids, or bisphenols, this water-based gel provides a clean and dependable finish well suited to quilters, bag makers, and home-sewing enthusiasts who need fabric to stand up to everyday use. Clear and odourless, it applies easily with a brush or card and gives cotton and many other woven fabrics a protective surface that can be tailored to the project—ranging from lightly water-repellent to fully waterproof.
With one coat, fabrics gain a gentle level of protection that helps them resist moisture—useful for items such as table runners or placemats. Two coats give a firmer, coated-canvas feel ideal for bags, pouches, and structured accessories. A third coat develops a waxed-canvas effect and creates a highly water-resistant finish, making the fabric suitable for outdoor accessories or items expected to encounter regular handling. Once cured, the treated fabric remains fully sewable and can be cut, pieced, and pressed much like untreated cotton. The finish withstands machine washing at 30°C and offers notable resistance to abrasion, making it especially suitable for pieces that see frequent use.
OdiCoat also functions as a glue, allowing fabric to adhere to a variety of surfaces. It is touch-dry in around 30 minutes and fully dry after approximately 12–24 hours, depending on the number of coats. For best results, the gel should be iron-cured between coats using a low-to-medium (satin) setting and baking or parchment paper as a barrier. Once fully cured, the coating provides a resilient finish that supports long-term wear.
Because the product is food-safe for indirect contact, it is also suitable for aprons, table coverings, pie carriers, reusable sandwich wraps (when food is separately wrapped), and similar practical home items. It performs best on smooth woven fabrics; it is not recommended for thick velvet, suede, or embossed textures. As with all treatments, testing on a small sample is advisable.
Overall, OdiCoat provides makers with a simple and dependable way to transform ordinary cotton into a coated, washable, and long-lasting textile, opening up creative possibilities for both functional and decorative sewing projects.
