Product Description
Carnival Ombre Zip | No.5 Continuous Zip
Confident and cohesive, Carnival Ombre brings a full spectrum of colour to carefully made bags and accessories. Both the tape and the teeth carry the same smooth gradient—blue → indigo → purple → magenta → pink → red → orange → yellow → green—so the zip reads as a single, blended band with no contrasting coil. It’s vibrant, but considered: a neat way to add personality to simple shapes, or to echo multicolour linings and bindings without visual clutter.
Sold by the ½ metre, we supply multiples in one continuous length, allowing you to cut precise runs for pockets, main openings and coordinated sets with minimal offcuts. Each ½ metre includes one matching #5 teardrop ring pull (silver tone); add extra pulls if you plan a double slider or several shorter zips from the same length.
Under the colour, the engineering is reassuringly practical. This is Size 5 (5 mm) continuous nylon coil, chosen for predictable handling on domestic machines. The coil feeds smoothly under a zipper foot, is gentler on needles than metal teeth, and flexes cleanly around curves and boxed corners. The ombré tape presses flat and takes top-stitching well, so parallel seams are easy to achieve. If your priority is tidy construction that wears well in daily use, this format earns its place in the notions drawer.
Design pairing is straightforward. Keep exteriors quiet—denim, natural linen, charcoal, navy—or pick up one hue from the gradient (teal, violet, coral, citrus) in your straps, webbing or zip ends to tie the palette together. Because tape and teeth match, the closure looks considered from both sides—useful for patterns where the inside is on show.
As a continuous zip, configuration is entirely yours. Feed sliders from either direction to create single- or double-pull zips, trim to the millimetre, and finish ends to suit your pattern—fold back and stitch for a clean stop, or seal carefully with a fray-preventer. It’s a flexible, workshop-friendly component for pouches, wash bags, project cases, travel organisers and everyday totes.

Maker’s notes
-
Use a zipper foot and a steady, moderate stitch length for parallel top-stitching.
-
Basting tape keeps layers aligned; press lightly from the wrong side if needed.
-
You can stitch across nylon coil when a pattern requires it; avoid this on metal teeth.
-
To finish short ends, fold back the tape and stitch, or apply fray-prevention.

✨ Attaching a Zipper Pull
- Separate the ends of the zip tape by a few centimetres to give yourself space.
- Place the slider so the flat side faces upward and the curved side points down.
- Insert the first side of the tape into the slider until it catches.
- Line up the second side carefully and feed it into the opposite channel.
- Push both sides in gently until the teeth begin to mesh.
- Slide the pull along the tape to check it’s secure and moving smoothly.
✂️ Snip Snip Tip: For easier threading, cut about 5 mm of the zipper teeth off one side of the tape. Feed the longer side with the teeth into the slider first, then the trimmed side — the stagger helps the pull catch and align cleanly.
Alternative: Trimming both ends of the tape on a slight angle can also help. Seal the cut edges with a quick pass of heat or fray stop to prevent unravelling.
