Morris Code for Fabric

Precision Fabric Colour Matching with the Morris Code

Colourful fabric background for the Morris Fabric Code for Fabric

Shopping for fabric online can be joyful—but let’s be honest, getting the colours right can sometimes feel like a gamble. We know how frustrating it is to receive fabric that looks different from what you expected, especially when you've spent hours planning the perfect palette.

That’s exactly why we created the Morris Code for Fabric—our in-house colour system designed to make fabric shopping more accurate, more reliable, and far more fun.

At Morris Works, every plain, tonal, and background fabric is carefully matched to one of 24 pure hues, based on the Ives colour wheel used in Joen Wolfrom’s Ultimate 3-in-1 Color Tool. This palette includes tints, tones, and shades for each base colour, giving you a beautifully nuanced system that reflects how quilters actually use and see colour.

By using the same colour language across our product range—and matching every fabric ourselves—you can confidently pair fabrics from your stash with fabrics from our shelves, knowing they’ll play nicely together in real life (not just on your screen).

We utilise The Ultimate 3-in-1 Color Tool by Joen Wolfram, an industry-standard Ives colour palette that ensures consistency and accuracy in colour matching. This tool can also be ordered online if you wish to have your own copy.Essential Color Wheel Companion

In addition, we also now carry the Essential Colour Wheel Companion which is a perfect pairing for the 3-in-1 Color Tool.

You can also search for general fabric colour groupings in the Printed Cotton Fabric and Plain Cotton Fabric sections of our site.
