Matilda's Own 100% Wool Quilt Wadding
Soft, breathable, and beautifully natural — our Matilda’s Own 100% Wool Quilt Wadding Remnants are a wonderful way to work with pure Australian wool while keeping your projects flexible, economical, and thoughtfully sustainable.
These remnants are created in-house from roll ends and careful trimming during cutting, so sizes will vary — but every piece is made from the same premium 100% wool fibre as our full-length cuts. Wool’s natural ability to regulate temperature and wick moisture makes it a comfortable choice for quilts designed to be used year-round, offering warmth without heaviness.
Perfect for lap quilts, cushions, baby projects, wall hangings, or simply exploring how wool behaves under your needle, remnants give you the freedom to experiment without committing to a larger cut. The fibres are needle-punched with a fine stabilising scrim to help prevent bearding and allow a generous quilting distance of up to 10", making this wadding suitable for both hand and machine quilting styles.
With a low loft of approximately ⅛+ inch (0.3+ cm) this wadding drapes beautifully while maintaining excellent stitch definition. Naturally hypoallergenic and free from resins, sprays, or glues, it offers a clean, breathable foundation for quilts that prioritise comfort as much as craftsmanship.
Each remnant is hand-folded and packaged plastic-free in our Brighton shop — because thoughtful quilting starts with thoughtful materials.

Care & Usage Tips
- Shrinkage: 2.5%
- Maximum Stitch Distance: 10" (25 cm)
- Suitable for both hand quilting and machine quilting
- Prewash not required. Recommended to wash in cold or cool water. Note that if washed in warm or hot water, additional shrinkage will happen, resulting in a very crinkled look. It is always recommended to air dry, though a finished quilted item can be tumble dried in a drier on a cool setting.
