If you enjoy the timeless feel of natural cotton wadding, our Matilda’s Own 100% Cotton Quilt Wadding Remnants offer a practical and sustainable way to stitch with a trusted classic — perfect for smaller makes, sampling, or thoughtful stash building.
These remnants are created in-house from roll ends and careful trimming during cutting, so sizes will vary — but each piece is made from the same premium Australian-grown, seed-free cotton as our full-length cuts. The fibres are needle-punched with a fine stabilising scrim to prevent bearding, giving you reliable structure with a soft, traditional drape.
Ideal for baby quilts, lap quilts, cushions, wall hangings, or testing how pure cotton behaves with your favourite quilting techniques, remnants give you the flexibility to create without committing to a larger cut. With a low loft of approximately ⅛+ inch (0.3+ cm) and a generous maximum stitch distance of up to 10", this wadding works beautifully for both hand and machine quilting.
Naturally breathable and hypoallergenic, cotton helps regulate temperature, making it a comfortable choice for year-round quilts and projects intended for everyday use. Prewashed and preshrunk with minimal shrinkage, it offers a dependable finish that quilters have trusted for generations.
Free from resins, sprays, glues, or bonding agents, each remnant reflects the same clean, natural construction as our standard cuts. Every piece is hand-folded and packaged plastic-free in our Brighton shop — supporting a more mindful and sustainable approach to quilting.

Care & Usage Tips
- Shrinkage: 2.5%
- Maximum Stitch Distance: 10" (25 cm)
- Suitable for both hand quilting and machine quilting
- Prewash not required. Recommended to wash in cold or cool water. Note that if washed in warm or hot water, additional shrinkage will happen, resulting in a very crinkled look. It is always recommended to air dry, though a finished quilted item can be tumble dried in a drier on a cool setting.
