Manx Log Cabin Hand Quilting Workshop
A beautiful hand-stitched quilt inspired by a traditional Manx technique
Join Kerry Keeble for a relaxing and creative workshop exploring the traditional Manx Log Cabin quilting technique. Originating from the Isle of Man, this distinctive style of patchwork is pieced entirely by hand and creates a wonderfully textured quilt surface.
Unlike traditional log cabin quilting, this technique uses fabric strips that are folded and stitched in place, cleverly hiding the stitches while building layers of colour and texture. It’s a wonderful project for using treasured fabric scraps and perfect for slow stitching on the go.
What you’ll learn
Throughout the workshop Kerry will guide you through the techniques needed to create your own Manx Log Cabin block, including:
• How to use your own hand as a guide to measure and mark your fabric base
• Preparing fabric strips using traditional methods
• Choosing fabrics and planning colour placement
• Creating secondary designs through thoughtful fabric placement
• Selecting threads suitable for hand stitching
By the end of the workshop you’ll understand the structure of the technique and have the skills to continue building your Manx Log Cabin quilt at home.
