Matilda's Own Quilt Batting - Frequently Asked Questions
Scrim wadding includes a fine mesh layer for stability and allows an increase in the distance between quilt lines. Matilda's Own scrim-free uses higher fibre content (170gsm) and mechanical needle punching to increase the stability and allow quilt lines up to 6" apart, ideal for modern designs with larger open areas. For a deeper dive into choosing between scrim and scrim-free wadding, read our article Wadding: To Scrim or Not To Scrim.
Matilda's Own may cost slightly more than some alternatives, you're getting genuinely higher fibre content (not shrinkflation), rigorous quality testing, and consistent performance. The extra density means better structure and longer-lasting quilts. We've discontinued some brands due to quality variability - investing in reliable wadding saves frustration and ensures your finished quilt behaves as expected.
