Matilda's Own 100% Cotton Scrim-Free Quilt Wadding is a premium natural wadding made from Australian-grown cotton. With more cotton fibres per square metre and no supporting scrim, it offers a slightly higher loft and a beautifully soft, natural feel while retaining the breathability and comfort of pure cotton.
Unlike the standard Matilda's Own 100% Cotton Wadding, this version contains no scrim. The absence of a supporting layer allows the needle to pass smoothly through the wadding with minimal resistance, making it particularly pleasant to work with for both hand and machine quilting.
The increased cotton content gives this wadding a little more body and loft, creating greater definition around your quilting stitches while still producing the traditional drape and character associated with cotton wadding. With a recommended maximum quilting distance of 6–8" (15–20cm), it is suitable for a wide variety of quilting designs. The fibres are needle-punched to create an even, consistent wadding without the use of resins, sprays, glues or bonding agents.
Naturally breathable, 100% cotton helps regulate temperature and provides comfortable warmth without excessive bulk. Its soft handle and flexible structure make it a versatile choice for everything from everyday quilts and throws to carefully stitched heirloom projects.
Sold cut to length in ½ metre increments, you can order the amount required for your project rather than being restricted to a standard pre-cut size.
All our cut-to-length wadding is measured and cut in-house at Morris Works, allowing us to offer greater flexibility for different quilt sizes. Each order is also sent in plastic-free packaging.

Care & Usage Tips
- Shrinkage: 2.5%
- Maximum Stitch Distance: 6-8" (25 cm)
- Suitable for both hand quilting and machine quilting
- Prewash not required. Recommended to wash in cold or cool water. Note that if washed in warm or hot water, additional shrinkage will happen, resulting in a very crinkled look. It is always recommended to air dry, though a finished quilted item can be tumble dried in a drier on a cool setting.
