Product Description
Natural 100% Cotton Webbing, 25 mm | Sold by the Metre
Stephanoise cotton webbing is a workshop essential for bag handles, adjustable straps, fabric baskets, and organisers. It is sold by the metre, and when you order more than one metre we supply it in one continuous length so you can cut long straps with minimal joins. This colourway, Natural, has the quiet, undyed look of cotton with a matte surface that sits comfortably alongside quilting prints, canvas and linen. The tape is a plain weave with a firm hand, giving reliable structure without bulk. At 25 mm (1") wide, it’s the go-to size for everyday totes and cross-body bags.
Made from 100% cotton, this webbing handles predictably at the machine: it feeds evenly, presses into crisp folds for strap ends and keepers, and shows topstitching clearly. Cotton offers a comfortable grip and a refined, fabric-first finish; however, it is less water-resistant than synthetic webbings. For bags likely to see wet weather, consider adding a water-repellent spray or choosing a synthetic option for those projects. The dense construction resists twisting, keeps edges tidy, and provides a clean line across handles and basket rims.
For hardware, accuracy matters. Match this tape with 25 mm internal-width fittings—D-rings, sliders, triglides, and swivel hooks—to maintain smooth movement and prevent buckling at attachment points. Natural pairs well with most finishes (nickel, antique brass, or matte black), making it an easy neutral across many palettes.
Ends cut cleanly with a rotary blade. Finish by turning under and topstitching, enclosing in a fabric tab, or securing with a narrow zigzag at high-wear points. A slightly longer stitch length helps avoid compressing the weave and gives an even line of stitching.

Maker’s notes
-
Cut cleanly with a fresh rotary blade; seal ends by turning under and topstitching or by binding with a fabric tab.
-
Stitch comfortably with a walking foot or standard foot plus a longer stitch (3–3.5 mm) to avoid compression lines.
-
Press to shape: cotton webbing accepts a warm press; use steam to flatten folded ends before topstitching.
-
Moisture considerations: cotton absorbs water; for outdoor bags, consider a water-repellent finish or liner.
-
Hardware fit: measure internal hardware widths—25 mm components give the best alignment and movement.
